Small Seaworthy Boats

This is a shortlist of yachts I'm looking at which I hope are capable of corssing oceans. My choices are based on a number of things.

Price - I need it to be £10,000 or under (preferably under)
Size - I don't want a boat under 26 feet for the type of boat I want this isn't really an issue.

I am looking at Long Keel boats as this will give my better displacement and ballast so should be a smoother ride and better in poor weather.

Build wise I'm looking at GRP boats as wood are expensive to maintain and Steel again harder work to maintain and a good steel boat will be wel out of my price range.

The list at the moment looks like this in no particular order.

1. Halcyon 27 (Until recently this was the boat but it seems to the top of a few peoples list and
is creeping up in price and finding a good one a good price is very difficult)

2. Hurley 27 (Seems a strong boat would need changes but a possible contender)

3.Varne 27 (new to the list so more research required)

4.Albin Vega (Good record and good price but a little cramped and poor headroom)

5.Contessa 26 (Good looking, great reputation but expensive and similar to below boats)

6.Invicta 27 (Good price and a pretty boat I've read a few problems with structure of boat but
is a definite contender )

7.Cutlass 27 (Nice design but not much info especially on distant voyages)

8.Offshore 8m (unsure on this one has a good record I'm just not sold on it)

9.Warsash One Design (New to the list but looks good and price not too bad)

10.Nova 27 (A possibility its new on the list so I don't much about it)

11.Elizabethan 29 (For a half decent on out of my price range)

12.Twister 28 (too expensive but a really really good boat built like a brick poo house)

The Varne 27/Varne 850/Weston 8500 is a fin and skeg design, but a good sea boat. You can see some details on the owners' association website varne.co.uk.
